Exercise

If you'll be jogging or hiking with your iPod or you plan to move around a lot while you listen, then the iPod Nano or Shuffle is the way to go. Both the iPod Nano and the Shuffle use flash memory, no moving parts, which is totally skip-free. While the other iPods have 25-minute skip protection that make them nearly immune to skipping but it could happen, the iPod Nano and Shuffle will never skip. If your activities are on the extreme side and you are worried about dropping or scuffing you Nano or Shuffle, consider a separate case for maximum protection.
The iPod Shuffle is the smallest and lightest of the ipods and the 1 GB can hold XX songs. The downside with the shuffle is that there is no screen and you can't pick a song - it just plays whatever is on there either in a row or as a shuffle. You can pause, forward and reverse, but that's about it. Shuffles run from $x to $x. Click here to get more detailed information on the iPod Shuffle including prices.
The iPod Nano is the latest addition to the iPod family and comes with a color screen, up to 6 GB of flash memory (XX songs), can show pictures and is smaller and lighter than the full iPod. The iPod Nano is larger and more expensive than the iPod shuffle, but it is also more versatile. You should really consider getting a case for the iPod Nano if you are using it for exercise. iPod Nano run from $149.00 to $249.00. Running Your Entire Home Stereo System

Whether you're a student on a limited budget or the CEO of a fortune 500 company there are a number options available to you to get your iPod (Video and Nano) running on your home music system or to make it your home music system.
  • Speaker systems for iPods - There are the speaker systems, priced from a few $$ to $$$$$, with built-in iPod docks. Some of these are also portable, but most people treat them as permanent setups. Speaker systems with docks require separate AC power, and will charge the iPod while docked. Because the speakers are usually larger than the ones on battery-powered portables, they tend to produce better, more detailed sound. The higher-end speaker systems with docks have enough power to serve as a stereo shelf system for an office or den. Some even come with their own remote.
  • Computer speakers - If you can't afford a stereo but own a computer, you can make it your computer your stereo system with multimedia speakers for computers. Some of these systems have subwoofers, and can deliver sound quality comparable to a home stereo system for a fraction of the cost .
  • Your A/V system - If you have a decent audio system, you'll probably going to want to pump the iPod's music through it, rather than purchasing a separate smaller speaker system. With a stereo miniplug-to-RCA cable, you can connect your iPod directly to one of your receiver's inputs. You can also make this same connection between an iPod Dock and a receiver as well. This is a good choice if you want to make a more permanent connection to your system. Once the wiring is done, you simply place the iPod in the Dock, and tap into the music!
